MEET OUR FOUNDER
Welcome to Skin & Spirit Herbal Apothecary, where nature and self-care meet. My name is Terra Serrano, and I invite you to share in my passion for herbal remedies and develop a deep connection to the healing power of nature. ​

My exploration of the world of plants and herbal formulations began over two decades ago. However, my fascination with nature and the art of mixing outdoor "potions" dates back to my childhood. I remember spending countless hours experimenting with various leaves, flowers, and roots, concocting my own little recipes and remedies. This early passion blossomed into a rigorous self-study of herbalism, complemented by the invaluable guidance of several remarkable mentors who have shaped my understanding of this ancient practice.
Through their teachings, I have delved into various herbal traditions, including Western herbalism and Traditional Chinese Medicine, each offering a unique perspective and invaluable wisdom. Additionally, I have had the privilege to study Traditional Arab, Native American, and Appalachian Folk Herbalism, which has enriched my knowledge and appreciation for diverse healing practices. Beyond herbalism, I have also pursued studies in botany and plant identification, foraging techniques, sustainable growing practices with a particular emphasis on maintaining healthy soil, environmental stewardship extending to understanding endangered and overharvested plants, as well as the intricacies of organic skincare formulation.
With all this being said, I proudly identify as a lifelong learner. My journey is one of continuous exploration and growth, as I seek to deepen my connection with the plants that have chosen to become my allies. I approach this relationship with profound respect and gratitude, recognizing the wisdom that plants impart to us. Each plant has its own story, and I strive to honor that narrative in my work.
When it comes to creating my products, I adhere to a philosophy of simplicity and purity. I meticulously select as few ingredients as necessary to truly highlight the unique properties of the plants I incorporate. Whenever feasible, I prioritize the use of organic and sustainable ingredients. Many of the plants I utilize are either cultivated in my own garden or ethically wildcrafted by me. For those I source from others, I ensure they come from growers or wildcrafters whose practices align with my values of sustainability and ethical stewardship. While I do incorporate some essential oils in certain formulations (and I promise to share my thoughts on essential oils in a future discussion), the majority of my creations are rooted in the actual plants themselves. I employ methods that best showcase the physical and spiritual benefits these botanical allies offer us.
